Tell us about yourself. Where are you from? Where do you live now?

My name is Sellena R. Hunter. I am a small town country girl from Pearl, Mississippi. I am the CEO of an accounting office, which is also located in Pearl. I have been married to Eric D. Hunter for seven years. We have seven children altogether.

Eric is from Los Angeles, California originally. He currently works as a welder at Nucor Steele in Madison, Mississippi. We currently live in Jackson, Mississippi.

How did you meet?

We met for the first time at Wal-Mart. At the time, Eric was a store manager there. One night, I went to Walmart really late to get my daughter a costume. Eric assisted me in finding one. As I left the store, he kept staring at me as I was walking away. Two months later I was hired with Walmart.

Eric says that night he was surprised that I would go to the store at midnight to make sure my daughter had a costume. He knew I loved my children.

Describe the moment you knew you belonged together.

Sellena: The moment I knew we belonged together is when he would visit my home and I didn’t want him to leave. I would pray for God to give me a sign because of fear. He allowed me to be myself without judging my past.

I had some bad relationships in the past and he was different. He listened and was very caring. He interacted with my children.

Eric: The moment I knew we belonged together is when we broke up like a day and I couldn’t stop thinking about her. I knew I couldn’t and didn’t want to live without her.

What makes your relationship work?

What makes our relationship work is keeping God first. We pray together for dinner, bed time, and with a disagreement. We always talk until we understand each others point of view. Sometimes we agree to disagree. We know no matter what happens as long as we keep God first, love, and romance, it will work out.

What’s your favorite thing about each other?

Sellena: My favorite thing about Eric is he always goes out of his way to make me feel special. He makes it really hard for me to remain upset. He might make dinner reservation as a surprise to make me feel better.

Eric: My favorite thing about my wife, Sellena… She has a big heart. It was difficult at times watching how she tried to help everyone. I didn’t want to share her at times.

During the years, her heart for God’s people became one of the things I loved about her. I began to pray for her strength and guidance.

Tell us about your funniest moment together.

Our funniest moment together is when we went to a Kevin Hart show and we had to sit in different sections. We thought we purchased two tickets and after we arrived in New Orleans we realized we had one. We purchased a ticket from the concession and we were about five rows from one another. On the ride home we acted out and joked about Kevin Hart’s performance, since we weren’t sitting next to each other to laugh together. We laughed all the way home.
