(Jackson, Miss) — The Jackson State University (JSU) Development Foundation will host the inaugural ‘1877 Signature Event,’ sponsored by Bank of America, at 7 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 28, 2022, at the Jackson Convention Center in downtown Jackson.
“It is in the spirit of the university’s mission, “Challenging Minds and Changing Lives,” that we ask everyone to consider donating to Jackson State University,” says Gee Johnson, chairman of the JSU development foundation. “The 1877 Signature Event will be the tip of the spear, fundraising extravaganza for alumni, donors, students, and friends of students.”
Walking in stride with the university’s five-year strategic plan, the Foundation created the signature event to fortify existing financial relationships with JSU donors and establish new networking opportunities that will enhance the university’s academic experience and indirectly increase graduation rates.
Bank of America, the title sponsor of the event, anticipates more opportunities to collaborate with JSU on initiatives that drive home their core mission to improve the financial lives of surrounding communities through the power of every connection.
“We are elated to partner with the Jackson State University Development Foundation as JSU continues to set the bar as the pillar in elevating the lives of its students, faculty, staff, alumni, and local community,” says Ashley Varnado, senior vice president and philanthropic market executive. “We look forward to continuing our long-lasting partnership for many years.”
Financial proceeds will also benefit The (late) Terry Woodard Board Endowed Scholarship at JSU. Woodward was the 17th president of the Jackson State University National Alumni Association, Inc. After his tenure as president, Woodard became a board member of the JSU Development Foundation, Inc., serving as treasurer.
In the spirit of celebration, the event will host numerous musical acts, including powerhouse band Unfazed Show from the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Jessie Primer featuring Stephanie Luckett, and violinist John Uzodinma, with comedian Merc B serving as event host. An array of delicious cuisines will be served by collaborating chefs from the Jackson culinary scene.
BaeHut Catering, Reed’s Catering, MBar, Apple Inn and Cathead Distillery will provide food and beverages in collaboration with the Jackson Convention Center.
Individual tickets are $75 and up. Tickets and tables can be purchased here.
