June 23, 2022 (Atlanta, GA) – Dominion Entertainment Group will present the Atlanta premiere of Douglas Lyons’ (Apple TV’s Fraggle Rock, GLAAD nominee, Polkadots ~ Off-Broadway Alliance Winner Best Family Show) Broadway hit comedy Chicken & Biscuits. Directed by the award-winning Tom Jones(48 Helen Hayes Award nominations ~ 15 wins, 3 New York AUDELCO Award nominations, Drama-Logue Award, San Diego Critics Award, NAACP Phoenix Award, Kandi Burress’ A Mother’s Love, For Peace I Rise on the life of Civil Rights icon C.T. Vivian), it will feature Tonia Jackson (Atlanta, Black Lightning, Greenleaf, The Resident, Meet the Browns), Naomi Lavette (Are You Here with Owen Wilson and Zack Galifinikis, ABC’s Resurrection, House of Payne), Tequila Whitfield (Hidden Figures, Atlanta, Teenage Bounty Hunters, The Resident) and Enoch King (Drumline, Madea’s Family Reunion, The Fighting Temptations).

“Chicken & Biscuits,” a new play written by Douglas Lyons, comes to Atlanta straight from Broadway after staging its world premiere at Queens Theatre. Chicken & Biscuits will run at the Southwest Arts Center located at 915 New Hope Road, South Fulton, GA 30331. This laugh-out-loud comedy will be a limited engagement running for only two weeks from August 18th – August 28th.

ABOUT THE SHOW: The Jenkins family is coming together to celebrate the life of their father—hopefully without killing each other! Eldest daughter, Baneatta, wants everything to be perfect for her father’s funeral. “Favorite” daughter, Beverly, would rather honor her daddy dressed to show the entire congregation what she’s been “blessed with.” Teenage granddaughter, La’trice, can’t mind her own business if it was on a leash. Not far behind comes grandson Kenny and his very Jewish boyfriend Logan who is maybe, sort of, okay, definitely afraid of Baneatta. But Baneatta’s hopes unravel when a family secret shows up at the funeral.

ABOUT THE CAST 

Enoch King (Reginal Mabry) – He was previously seen in A Lesson Before Dying.  Recent credits include: The Light (Horizon Theatre), Toni Stone (Alliance Theater). Enoch has appeared on various stages including True Colors Theatre, Horizon Theatre, Shakespeare Festival, Aurora Theatre, and Theatrical Outfit. He is the recipient of the Suzi Bass Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Play for The Christians at Actor’s Express. Enoch can currently be seen in The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey on Appletv+.

Tequila Whitfield (Simone Mabry) Tequilla Whitfield landed her first leading role in two TVone’s holiday movies: “A Royal Holiday” and “A Royal Family Christmas” starring Vivica A. Fox, Debbi Morgan and Richard Lawson. The following year, she made her big screen debut in the hit movie “Hidden Figures” alongside Octavia Spencer and Taraji P. Henson. Then in 2018, she appeared on FX’s Emmy and Golden Globe winning show, “Atlanta.” Most recently, she appeared on Netflix’s hit show, “Teenage Bounty Hunters”. Some of her other television credits include FOX’s “Shots Fired” and “The Resident.” 

CREATIVE STAFF 

THOMAS W. JONES II (DIRECTOR) has directed, written, and performed in more than 200 plays worldwide. In 1978, Tom founded Jomandi Productions, where, as Co-Artistic Director and Producing Director, led Jomandi to become the third largest African-American theatre company in the U.S. His work as writer, director, and actor has been acclaimed nationally and internationally garnering 48 Helen Hayes Award nominations winning 15 awards, including Best Director for Samm Art Williams’ Home and his own Bessie’s Blues. He has also received 3 New York Audelco Award nominations, the Dramalogue Award, the San Diego Critics Award, NAACP Phoenix Award, among others. In 2000, Tom and his co-founders left Jomandi to create the entertainment company VIA International Artists, Inc. and subsequently a musical theatre company VIA Theatrical. He co-executive produced Sonia Sanchez’ CD “Full Moon of Sonia” and accompanying tour. His works include Three Sistahs, Point of Revue, Two Queens One Castle, Bricktop, Heart ‘n’ Soul, Love Johnny, A Cool Drink A Water, Holler, Sheddin’ and Blackberry Daze. Tom’s musical Cool Papa’s Party completed a workshop in New York with Wayne Brady. He directed Kandi Burress’ musical A Mother’s Love, Only Just a Minute and Mary Honey B. Morrison’s play Single Husbands. Other projects include Anne & Emmett, Black Pearl Sings, Big River, Rooms, among others. He also directed a tour of Janet Langhart Cohen’s Anne & Emmett. His most recent work was playwright and lyricist on the new musical For Peace I Rise on the life of Civil Right icon C.T. Vivian presented by Emory University’s Brave New World new work series.
