(New York, NY – Friday, November 8) – This past weekend, global superstars Akon and Becky G teamed up once more but this time for a dynamic performance at the 2019 MTV EMAs which took place on Sunday, November 3 in Seville, Spain. They performed their hit single “Como No” which is featured on Akon’s recently released full length spanish album, El Negreeto

The duo shut the house down, literally! Not only did Akon perform entirely in Spanish but he also surprised fans with a live congo session. Billboard raved “the duo’s magnetic energy shined throughout the Latin-tinged bop, most notably when Akon began performing on the congo with Becky vibing alongside him.” The two superstars were sure to incorporate their Latin and African cultures to deliver a genre bending performance. The highlight of the night wasn’t only on stage! The crowd, drummers, dancers, and Akon himself were so pumped they continued their performance backstage which lasted for quite some time until there was concern of a sound bleed to the stage.

The highly anticipated performance comes on the heels of Akon hitting #1 on the APPLE Music Latin Charts in less than twenty-four hours after the release of El Negreeto and making him the first African American to have a #1 Latin Album.  Other collaborations on the album include Brazilian artist, Anitta, Puerto Rican artist Farruko, Dominican artist Fuego and of course the popular Cuban artist Pitbull. He also teamed up with key Latin producer and Latin Grammy Award-winning artist Maffio, to ensure the album embodied and truly represented Latin culture.

With over 35 million albums sold worldwide and 5 Grammy Nominations, Akon is a key player in the global music industry. Recognizing not only mainstream genres but culture shifting sounds, Akon is intentional about bridging cultural gaps through music.
