(Denver, CO – Friday, August 16) – Earlier today, soul singer, philanthropist, and actress Such, released her third studio album, Wide Nose, Full Lips. A special ode to her people, Such embodies the true essence of a Black woman on this project. We hear that and more on the album, especially with her lead single “Before Dark,”a coming of age peace (pun intended) in which Such truly embraces her sexuality and self-love. The hit single, which premiered on BET Her, charted top 40 on the Urban AC Charts.
“I’ve been on this road to discovering who I am as a Black woman and becoming someone who is a little more comfortable in her skin. This album is about embracing our beauty as black people, being fully confident in our sensuality as Black women, and no longer struggling to find comfort in our own skin.” – Such
All in all, Wide Nose, Full Lipsis an “unapologetic love letter to blackness.” We especially see this on “Melanin,” another single off the project that really celebrates blackness in all of its glory featuring popular spoken word artist Kerrie Joy. Other amazing musicians on the album include Monique Brooks-Robertswho arranged and recorded strings.
On August 24thand 25th, Such will celebrate the release of her project at The Soiled Dove where Jazz singer Tony Exum Jr.(8/24) andKerrie Joy(8/25) will open for her. The second date was added due to a sold-out show on the 24th! Tickets can be purchased herevia ticketfly.com. About Such
Such (pronounced ’such’) is a Boston born, New York raised, California educated, Chicago groomed Soul singer who now calls Denver home. As a performer she has enough energy to power a small city, captivating and winning over audiences in renowned venues across the U.S., U.K, France, Japan and the Netherlands. As a songwriter, she’s a natural-born storyteller, weaving lyrics that capture the imagination and touch the soul. Her album, ‘Trial and Error’ (13 originals) – follows on the heels of her successful lead single, ‘Sugar Maple’, which topped UK’s Soul Charts for several consecutive weeks and is a favorite on urban and satellite radio. In 2016, she became the first and only Black American woman to win an All African Music Award (AFRIMA), continental Africa’s equivalent of a Grammy. After pouring some “such sauce” on Paul McCartney’s classic ‘Maybe I’m Amazed’ and John Legend’s ‘Ordinary People‘ she’s back with the sultry, silky smooth ‘Before Dark‘, the leading single from her upcoming album due later this year. Such is also an award-winning actress, earning Henry and Broadway World ‘Best Actress’ and ‘Best Acting Debut’ nods for her portrayal of Celie in the Color Purple, has had several TV appearances and finished in the top 60 on American Idol’s season 11.
