ABOUT JAI
Born SHONDARIC D. JUDGE “Jamie” on February 11th, 1986 in Jackson, Mississippi, JAI came from a musical background. His late grandmother, Leatrice Stampley, played the piano as well as directed a choir for more than 50 years. With the passing of his older sister in 1999, a 13-year-old JAI looked for an outlet to express his pain. He had always been gifted in school, but he excelled in English over the years. A late bloomer to writing music, JAI started writing at the age of 16 with his cousin Brian. Too shy to ever rap in front of anyone he put music to the side until college.
He met up with Michael Bunch who remembered him from previous years of making music and collaborated on a mixtape in 2007. Impressed by his lyrical ability, he struck the ear of an A&R at Sony Music Entertainment in 2008.
He continued searching for his own sound becoming more passionate about his craft. In April 2009, JAI released his first city-wide mix tape WWJD (world-wide JAI day), which became a local success. He went on to be featured in shows at high schools, casinos, as well as sweet 16 parties. JAI is no stranger to the limelight as he topped the leaderboard in 2011 with the Wale BAIT REMIX COMPETITION.
In 2012, JAI met with Lenny Santiago at Def Jam Records. He continued making music and in 2015 he released My Life (The Vent) and saw his biggest fan base to date that would have him performing at SXSW 2015 in Austin, Texas. He competed in Atlanta at the Harlem Nights Club with Coast to Coast Live where he was the 3rd Place prize winner out of 30 acts. Currently, he’s preparing his next mixtape My Life (The Vent 2).
JAI has had the pleasure of performing at Jefferson County High School, Alcorn State University, LDs nightclub, Horizon Casino, SXSW 2015 Lucky Lounge, Coast2Coast ATL (Harlem Nights – 3rd place winner), and SXSW 2016 (J Blacks).
