Tell us about yourself. Where are you from? Where do you live now?

Tykie: I’m from Greenwood; Mississippi.
Ashly: I’m from Brandon, Mississippi.

We currently reside in Port Gibson, Mississippi together.

How did you meet?

We met the Fall of 2010 at Alcorn State University.

Tykie: I gave her a ride to the gym. I was driving crazy and she was so scared. When we made it to the gym, she gave me her number. Because I didn’t have a phone, I wrote it on a piece of paper. I used my friend’s phone to contact her and that’s how it started.

Ashly: I guess that’s close enough to the actual truth. For the record, I did not give him my number that day. We argue about that part every time we discuss how we met with family and friends! Haha…

Describe the moment you knew you belonged together.

Tykie: After one month of dating, we exclaimed the love we had for one another. I knew then I could never let her go. Plus, she was my first real love.

Ashly: He says one month, I say after one year. Lol… We actually broke up for a little over a year, but no matter what happened and whenever we needed each other, we were there for one another. I can’t stay mad at him long and he’s the same way. What more do you need to know you “belong” with someone, right?

What makes your relationship work?

Tykie: Energy, love, and laughter… We are not your average couple. So most relationships will not work like ours. It’s like the first time you saw a shooting star. It’s rare. This is why it works.

Ashly:  I agree with him. However, laughter is the biggest part. For example, we could be upset about something, but someone would do something funny or trip mid-argument breaking the ice. Then, we would laugh and makeup.

What’s your favorite thing about each other?

Tykie: My favorite thing about Ashly is everything. She’s wonderful, caring, loving, a little crazy, smart, talented, beautiful, gorgeous, and real. The best part is that she is a great mother and she loves her child and me with everything in her.

Ashly: Tykie could get along with the grass outside. He’s such a people person and everyone loves him. Not only does he cheer me up all the time, but he does the same to family friends and even strangers. He’d give anyone the shirt off his back and I love that.

Tell us about your funniest moment together.

Tykie: Spring Break 2015 in New Orleans. We had drinks on Bourbon Street and got a little tipsy. We fought and argued all night, but the next day neither one of us could remember anything. So we woke up like, “Let’s do it all over again!” Lol…

Ashly: Yes! NOLA is always funny when we go together. Too crazy to explain!
