Jake Wilbourne’s Bryson Tiller Exchange Cover and More

Name: Jake Wilbourne
Occupation: Cashier / Recording Artist
Location: Forest, Mississippi

When did you first start singing?

Really not long after I first learned to talk, but I started taking it seriously and getting better by the age of eleven.

What did your family do to encourage you?

Well, moms always supported through anything I ever wanted to do! But she has also helped me out tremendously early on through the financial side of the business, like helping me pay for outfits and studio time while I was really young and didn’t have any money in my pockets.

Who else in your family sings?

Actually, my grandparents used to do country music together, they were way closer to making it in the business than I am right now. lol

Who are your musical inspirations?

Well ever since Chris Brown came out when I was in the 4th grade he’s been my biggest inspiration as far as music period. But I’ve got to give it to Eminem for being the biggest inspiration to me as far as rap… vocabulary… the way he forms his lyrics and patterns and creating an image for the people.

But also classics like Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, B.B. King, Bob Marley… I mean I could go on forever about who inspires me.

What’s the first song you ever sang?

The first song I ever performed was Chris Brown- Forever. I performed it in front of my whole school for the talent show.

What kind of music do you listen to today?

It’s only a select number of artist that I just really listen to.. I pretty much listen to Kevin Gates like all day, to be honest. He’s another inspiration of mine, just the way he puts himself out there and as well as Em, the way he forms his patterns are crazy to me! But I mostly listen to trap music and R&B.

What embarrassing songs might I find on your phone/pod?

Lol… I mean I don’t really have any songs on my phone that I would find embarrassing to be honest… Like I mentioned I only listen to a few artists so there’s not too much music on my phone.

Where is the one place you really want to perform at?

Madison Square Garden of course! I mean go big or go home right? And that’s pretty much a big deal to have the honor of performing at such a huge place, especially if I could manage to sell out!

Who would you love to open for?

I think it’d be dope to open up for Future or Drake.

If you weren’t singing, what would you be doing?

I would be losing my mind!! I couldn’t even imagine what to focus on if it wasn’t that!

Do you play any instruments?

I play guitar, piano, drums. I played the saxophone for a few years in junior high.

If you could dabble in another genre of music, what would it be?

I would try to do some blues music for sure! The vibe and the amount of soul and feeling that is put into blues music is so powerful! It really makes you just close your eyes and feel it!

What genre of music can’t you stand to listen to?

I try to appreciate all music for what it is, but I just can’t help the fact that I really hate country music!!

What hidden talents do you have?

I really can’t think of anything impressive I can do!

Do you enjoy writing music and/or lyrics?

Yes. I really enjoy changing my flows and patterns and really just being able to express myself in my music! I usually never talk about anything that I’m not actually living or haven’t actually gone through (except maybe stretching the truth a little about how much money I actually have). 🙂

What do you think about while you’re performing?

“Please don’t forget the words!” No joke though…I just try to stay cool, keep everything smooth and focus! (Especially on not forgetting the words!)

What else can we expect from you in the future?

HEAT!! Lol… but seriously, I will be applying constant pressure with singles, mixtapes, videos, albums, radio songs, etc… Just wait on it and don’t sleep on me!
