Tell us about what you do for a living. And why?

I’m the Director of Public Relations & Marketing at Jackson Medical Mall Foundation. I’m also a consultant, writer and speaker. I love to write, create and provide resources for others. I love to connect people and create opportunities for them to grow.  As a business owner, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed  transforming my hobbies and interests into profit.

What’s the best advice you were ever given?

“If you can’t find your dream job create it.” – Cherita Brent.

What motivates you to keep going?

My genuine passion for what I do.

What important lessons have you learned along the way?

1. Beware of opportunists disguised as opportunities.
2. Most importantly I’ve learned to stay in my lane and be myself.  One day, I woke up and said, “If I’m gonna do this, I’ve gotta do it my way.”  I had to learn to do what’s natural for me and to work with people who share similar goals. Forget all the noise, forget what others are doing and saying, or not saying, just focus on creating a clear, consistent brand and improving it daily.

How do you balance family and work?

I haven’t mastered it that’s for sure. LOL. But usually, when I get home from work, I spend time with my family, spend time doing home maintenance and mommy duties and resume working after they fall asleep.

What’s next for you?

I’m in the process of working to complete a major project and to do more motivational speaking. I’m also exploring  other types of writing again like script writing and poetry.  One day I’d like to get into short film production.

As for the business, I’m constantly leveraging  my growth and I’m working towards getting a few more industry & leadership certifications. My mother and I worked on one my final undergraduate projects together, which was building a model of a recreational facility.  We wrote a plan for it.  I’d love to do that in her honor.

What do you want your legacy to be?

She helped to transform businesses, brands and lives.
