WHAT IS EARTHING?
According to an entry in the Journal of Environment and Public Health, Earthing (also known as grounding) refers to contact with the Earth’s surface electrons by walking barefoot outside or sitting, working, or sleeping indoors connected to conductive systems, some of them patented, that transfer the energy from the ground into the body.
Do you remember walking around barefoot in the grass as a child? If so, you experienced Earthing and didn’t even know it! Whenever I recall those moments, I smile because it reminds me of the innocence of my youth. I was so young, happy and carefree.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF EARTHING?
Did you know that standing barefoot in the grass fifteen minutes a day aids in balancing your emotions, physical body, mind and spirit? According to Dr. Sinatra of the Heart MD Institute, Earthing can help with:
- Inflammation and pain
- Blood pressure
- Sleep quality
Do you know anyone that participates in Earthing on a regular basis? If not, I was able to reach out to Mocha Moma, an author and spoken word artist from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, who recently began her earthing journey.
What is earthing?
Earthing is a natural way to improve your health with direct contact to the earth’s natural energy.
What are the benefits of earthing?
Earthing can reduce stress, help us sleep better, and heal faster…just to name a few.
What made you start earthing?
As a child, I was earthing all the time. We just called it running around barefoot. Haha! I started earthing as an adult a year ago after years of noticing how my body physically and mentally reacts to the earth and its seasons. I have aches and pains from just staying active and I don’t like taking medications of any kind so I’ve been turning to earthing.
Have you seen any improvements as far as grounding?
I live on the east coast so I have not been able to do any earthing for months due to winter. However, spring has sprung and the energy I have received over the past couple of weeks is instant.
What do you hope to gain from earthing?
I’m currently on a poetry tour and I need all of the stress relief and sleep aid I can get. I also have a sore knee from playing tennis and I need that to heal asap. So I’m hoping to see some relief from earthing sooner rather than later.
