Today is February 1, 2016, which is also the first day of The Month of Love. In celebration of this romantic filled month, I would like to present our first Featured Couple of 2016, Mr. and Mrs. Willie McKennis, Sr.
Tell us about yourself. Where are you from? Where do you live now?
My name is Terica, I go by Tee and also FitnezzGirl. I have been doing fitness for a few years. I decided to loose weight and get healthy because I didn’t like how I looked or felt. I thought I was doing it for me only to discover it was never about me. It’s always been about God and His kingdom.
My family and I just recently relocated from Mississippi to California. We moved in August 2015 to do ministry work.
How did you meet?
I met my husband in college back in 1999. I thought he was quite handsome. He had on glasses which made him look distinguished. He had on a belt and a nice button down shirt. No sagging pants…just nice and clean cut.
He opened his mouth and he had a mouth full of gold teeth. I immediately judged him and thought he was only in school to get the Pell Grant money. But to my surprise over the next few weeks of school, I discovered that he was still attending school and very smart.
Describe the moment you knew you belonged together.
One night, he opened up to me and shared his true thoughts and feelings about me. As he was talking to me, God spoke to me and told me that He was going to be the Father of my children.
I asked God how would this be? One thing led to another…and in 2002, we married each other.
What makes your relationship work?
We are always seeking God. He is the center of our focus. We always build each other up. I refer to him as my King. We work together as a team. We try to make decisions together.
What’s your favorite thing about each other?
We are each other’s best friend. We are always looking for ways to make each other happy. We both flow together in ministry.
Tell us about your funniest moment together.
It has to be when we thought we were moving to Florida only for God to completely undo our plans and move us to California. We even took a trip to Florida to “spy out the land”.
We wanted to see if the land was indeed flowing with milk and honey. We looked at housing and schooling for our kids. Only to not move there, but go in the opposite direction. #Lifechanging.

I have been friends and consider myself to be a sister of Willie and Terica for years now. Their love is real and it is truly evident that it is led by God. I love them and am so excited and happy that they are featured in this publication. REAL, Godly LOVE/relationships does exist and I see it every time I see them. They would encourage me that one day God would bless me with the same and God has definitely done that. I love those two and always will!
Thank you for reading their love story. I hope that others will find the same encouragement as you did. It was certainly an honor to feature them. I look forward to hearing your love story one day. 😊
