Q: Tell us about yourself.

RD: I am Rubi Davidson. Pretty much born and raised in Mississippi; now living in central Florida. I am a 2003 Graduate of Tougaloo College. My main business name is Rubi D. Artistry of which Artistics Natural BodyCare is an entity created for the purpose of promoting healthy, glowing skin with handmade products using natural ingredients infused with custom fragrances.

After receiving my esthetician’s license, I had always thought about creating my own natural skincare line to use on my clients instead of what I used while learning because the products contained chemicals. One day, I just went into my kitchen and started mixing. I started with 6 products and now I’m almost at 30.

Q: Does your product, Pretty Kitty, help with ingrown hairs?

RD: Pretty Kitty was formulated especially for women. Me being a woman, I knew first hand what problems I encountered with female grooming and thought I could make something that could at least help. I had learned what I needed to about skin and what worked.

The main problem with ingrown hairs is that it grows back into the skin. Skin is made up of cells. Cells multiply and every so often you have a new face pretty much, but you need to get rid of the dead skin cells. It’s no different for other areas of the skin. When you are consistently removing the dead skin cells by exfoliating, the hair really never has a chance to grow back into the skin.

I always stress cleansing to prevent buildup, exfoliating to remove dead skin cells, moisturizing to keep the skin soft and supple, and most importantly drink plenty of water.

Q: How do you prevent ingrown hairs?

RD: The best way to prevent ingrown hairs is to cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturize consistently. I do all three every day!

Q: How long does hair need to be before shaving with Pretty Kitty?

RD: With my product, a 1/8th of an inch would be ideal, but there are some people that can’t tolerate stubble. Even with stubble, my product can be used. Because the product is oil based, I recommend using hot water for the best results.

Q: How long does smoothness from shaving with this product last?

RD: Smoothness, for the most part, lasts about the same time as shaving with any other product since my product isn’t for permanent hair removal. Pretty Kitty doesn’t dry out the skin like products that contain soap, so the oils and butter moisturize the skin so overall the skin feels smoother.

Q: Is there an added moisturizer in Pretty Kitty?

RD: Pretty Kitty is butter/oil based; so that allows for moisturizing the skin after use.

Q: What kind of razor blade do you recommend?

RD: I recommend a triple blade razor to reduce the number of times you have to go over the same area. Using hot water helps to make sure the oil and butter stay melted instead of thickening when using cold water. It’s easier to shave the skin in that area when it’s been exposed to hot water to relax and calm the skin for a smoother shave.

Q: How can you get rid of razor burns?

RD: Razor burns are caused when there isn’t a proper barrier between the skin and the razor. To prevent it, just make sure you are using enough shaving cream or gel to ensure your skin is completely protected. If you already have razor burns, shea butter (which is the main ingredient in the Pretty Kitty Butter) helps to heal the skin and restore it.

Q: Do you have any advice as far as maintaining between shaves?

RD: Between shaves, use the scrub and butter daily. The scrub should be used to exfoliate after cleansing. The butter should be applied after drying off. All products are for external use only.
