Tell us about yourself. Where are you from? Where do you live now?

We both are from Columbia, Mississippi and reside in Pearl, Mississippi.

How did you meet?

We met at West Marion High Summer 1995, which was Robin’s high school. They were offering a drivers ed course that I was enrolled in and he was attending Summer School. They didn’t have the drivers ed course at my school. I attended East Marion High. We were high school rivalries.

Describe the moment you knew you belonged together.

We became great friends and nothing more from Summer 1995. I was already dating someone and plus I would not give Robin, who likes to be called Rob, the time of day.

Rob and I would laugh on the phone all night. The guy I was dating didn’t make me laugh. Rob said he took me shopping in Hattiesburg, but I don’t recall the shopping part. However, I remember him bringing me a stuffed animal and candy for Valentines Day. I also recall him asking me one night on the phone if I believed in destiny? I don’t remember answering because I thought it was a trick question or set up. Lol!

After graduating from high school, we lost contact. He tried to see me again while a Freshman at Jackson State University, but that didn’t go through. It would be 10 years later. He tried calling my grandmother to get my phone number, but she knew not to give anybody my phone number until she knew it was okay to do so. I had an idea that it was Rob and told her it was okay.

He called me while working in the Gulf of Mexico and told me that he was coming to see my high school football team play in the state championship in Jackson and wanted to see me. After the game he came by my house and helped me rake leaves, I had a thought right then that he could be the one. A week later on our second meeting he gave me a journey necklace and told me that something that started off small would turn into something big and signified our journey together by him finding me again. That was my confirmation. He pursued me and had diamonds!!

We dated for a year and went through marriage counseling and tied the knot on 08-08-08. Two weeks later we were searching through documents at the Mississippi Archives and found my great grandparents also wed on 08-08. They were married almost 70 years until death.

Rob and I will be celebrating 8 years in the upcoming year of 2016 and during this journey, he paid my way through nursing school both LPN to RN and we had the birth of our first child this year on September 1st, so I guess I do believe in destiny.

What makes your relationship work?

We are both stubborn Capicorns. We try to overcome the flesh and get Godly counsel from mature couples. We attend marriage retreats, date as much as we can and enjoy eating and traveling.

What’s your favorite thing about each other?

My favorite thing about Rob is that he makes me laugh and we enjoy eating the same foods. Rob said his favorite thing about me is that I am a godly woman.

Tell us about your funniest moment together.

Too many… but every time we pass through Magee, Mississippi, he points at the lake. The same lake where he threw a black lizard on me and I almost went crazy! It was a fake black lizard thank God. Ha!
