When I started reading Fifty Shades of Grey, I was excited because I could relate to the clumsiness and awkwardness of the leading lady’s character. The moment she tripped into the office of the most powerful man she’d ever met, I was immediately ready to fall in love with their unfolding story. I wanted to absorb every detail of how Anastasia and Christian would live happily ever after.
To my disappointment, this did not happen. The story became intense and dark with unexpected twist and turns. To read this book was a struggle for me because I am a hopeless romantic.
The combination of sexual pleasure and what I deem as abuse was a bit much for me. Nevertheless, I applaud E.L. James for writing this book because it may be the conviction one needs to break free from the cycle of abuse.
Have you read this book? What are your thoughts?
