On August 11, 2023, the legendary Yankees Stadium in Bronx hosted a historic event: “Hip Hop 50 Live,” a celebration of five decades of Hip Hop. Co-produced by Mass Appeal, Live Nation, and the New York Yankees, the concert brought together icons like Run DMC, Nas, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, and Ice Cube, alongside other stars including A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie and Lil Kim.
The event wasn’t just a musical showcase; it embodied Hip Hop’s profound impact on culture. With appearances by T.I., Cam’ron, and Common, it paid homage to the genre’s roots and legacy, featuring pioneers like DJ Kool Herc & Cindy Campbell, Grandmaster Caz, Kurtis Blow, Melle Mel, Roxanne Shante, and The SugarHill Gang.

The stage also saw a blend of genres and fields, with special guests like Senator Chuck Schumer, Governor Kathy Hochul, and Derek Jeter recognizing Hip Hop’s societal reach. Musical appearances by Lauryn Hill, Wu Tang, Method Man, Wiz Khalifa, and Ashanti displayed its cross-genre and cross-cultural appeal.
As the night continued, Too $hort, Doug E. Fresh, and Christian “King” Combs kept the energy alive. The concert embraced diversity by featuring artists like Flo Milli, Scar Lip, Peter Gunz, and Cory Gunz, showcasing Hip Hop’s wide-ranging voices.
