Jackson State University kicks off its annual Day of Giving event today, Friday, July 14, at 7 p.m. via JSU’s Facebook Live, YouTube, and JSUTV. This year’s virtual program is themed “B.E.T. on JSU,” which stands for “Black Excellence at Thee.”
The show promises to be entertaining, with several surprise celebrity guest appearances. Last year’s event exceeded the university’s $600,000 fundraising aim, and they are looking to do it again this year.

“When people give to Jackson State University, they are making a life-changing investment in our students and helping to create an academic atmosphere where they can flourish,” said JSU Acting President Elayne H. Anthony, Ph.D. “So, we are calling on all our supporters to join in the Day of Giving spirit and help contribute to the continued success of our students and the elevation of JSU.”
The Division of Institutional Advancement began the Day of Giving over nine years ago. The event allows the JSU alumni, employees, parents, students, friends, and community to rally together and give back to the university, but more specifically to the programs and causes that speak to their hearts.
“We are always moved by the generosity displayed for our annual Day of Giving. The financial gifts we receive help increase our visibility as an institution and are a testament to our impact in the community,” said Gwen Caples, interim vice president of the Division of Institutional Advancement.
The Day of Giving is a multi-collaborative effort drawing on the talents of the Division of Institutional Advancement, University Marketing and Communications, Alumni and Constituency Relations, faculty, staff and students.
Day of Giving is Friday, July 14, and includes a virtual Day Party at noon, hosted by DJ Unpredictable, and concludes with the B.E.T. on JSU video presentation at 7 p.m. on Facebook Live, YouTube and JSUTV.
