We all love summer for several reasons: holidays, beach waves, the sun-kissed skin, and carefreeness that comes with long days and warm nights. That is the time when we’re proud of our tan because our skin looks amazing, and it’s only natural that with fall our skincare routine changes. As fall brings us cooler air, it’s inevitable that our skin becomes dry and flaky as a result. To prevent this from happening, we offer you a few useful tips on keeping your skin healthy and glowing this fall.
Use green tea
Green tea is amazing: it boosts your metabolism, helps your body burn fat, has caffeine that can give you energy, and it’s great for your skin. You can use green tea to make your own skin toner which will allow you to keep your skin hydrated and reduce the appearance of blemishes and inflammation. You can use regular tea bags, or you can buy instant green tea in form of powder and add several drops of lavender essential oil. Every evening, dip a cotton pad in this tonic and apply it to your face and neck; you will soon notice that your skin tone is even.
Switch from powder to liquid
Powder-based products in your makeup bag are easier to use during warm summer months, but you should leave it aside during fall and winter. They might be the right choice for hot and humid weather, but they do nothing to help with hydration during colder periods of the year. Whatever you use that comes in form of a powder – blush, concealer, foundation, or eye shadow – ditch them for a while and stick to creams and liquids instead. You should focus on retaining moisture because of the cold air and lower temperatures, and try simplifying your makeup routine.
Moisturizer is your friend
You already know that you should drink at least eight glasses of water a day if you want to stay healthy and well hydrated, but your skin needs more than that. Those with oilier skin usually skip moisturizer, thinking that it will worsen their condition, but it’s not the case. If you properly cleanse and moisturize your skin, not only will you keep breakouts under control, but you won’t produce excess sebum. Make applying moisturizer a part of your daily routine (weekends included) and your skin will be grateful while you’ll be able to keep your complexion in check.
While you may remember to use cleanser every day, you should also exfoliate your skin regularly. We should help our skin get rid of dead cells so that products we use later can be absorbed. This means that after you exfoliate, your skin can get the most out of all those moisturizers, serums, and oils you use every day. Don’t forget to exfoliate the skin on your hands as well, and if you want, you can make your own exfoliating scrub using ingredients from your own kitchen: ground coffee, brown sugar, and coconut oil.
Beware the sun
Just because summer is behind us and we don’t spend time at the beach and by the pool, it doesn’t mean that you should forget about the SPF. Using makeup with SPF is a great way to incorporate sun protection into your beauty routine, but if you don’t wear a lot of makeup, you should try something else. Luckily, there are many great natural and non-toxic sunscreen products on the market, so even if you have sensitive skin, allergies, or use only vegan or natural products you can find something that’s right for you.
While it’s not possible to always have flawless skin, with a little bit of effort and by following a few simple rules you will ensure that you keep your glowing summer complexion. Experiment and improvise with different products and regimes until you find the one that works best for you and your skin. It’s important to be patient and gentle with your skin and to give it plenty of love and attention, and as a result, you will look as young and fresh as you feel.
