On July 5, 2016, 37-year old Alton Sterling was shot and killed by two officers in front of a convenient store in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It comes to my attention that he was selling CDs outside the store until those two officers confronted him. It was stated that Sterling asked the officers a couple of questions pertaining to why they came over to him. Then, the officers proceeded to attack Sterling to the ground. One of the officers pulled out a gun and put it to Sterling’s head and stated that he will shoot him. The other officer shouted,”GUN!” The officer who already had his gun out shot Sterling four to six times in the chest. Below is a video shown of the incident that took place. It is very disturbing so if you can’t handle the graphics, I advise you to NOT watch it.
Now, in this world, we are still fighting for justice. Alton Sterling is just one of many people who have lost their lives to the people who are supposed to “Protect and Serve” us. They are now “Comply and Die”. I don’t understand why they are doing this to us. This man was selling CDs! Explain to me how can someone harm anybody by selling CDs. That is someone’s father, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, etc.
But you want to know the crazy thing about this incident… You know how cops are “supposed” to wear their body cameras? How about when they attacked Sterling, “somehow” those body cameras were no where on their body when they killed him. It will come a time where these cops killing us will have to stop. We, as a race, have to stand together… not just when they kill one of own, but all the time. They hate to see us stand together because if we do stand together as one, nobody can break us down. We can’t just stand together for Alton Sterling. We have to stand together for Sandra Bland, Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, Oscar Grant and every African-American that has been killed by the people who are supposed to protect and serve us. It’s seems to me that the only people who can protect us are ourselves.
